The short answer
To switch home inspection software without losing anything, move your templates and contacts first, check them on a test inspection while your old account is still open, and move past reports last, after your final inspection in the old software.
Plan on past reports coming over as PDFs. Other software exports finished reports as PDFs, so in the new system they're files you can find and resend, not reports you keep editing.
In Hive Inspect you can upload a template yourself from Spectora, Home Inspector Pro, HomeGauge or Horizon. Our team moves your templates, agreements, contacts and services for you at no extra cost, and imports your past report PDFs from Spectora, ISN, HomeGauge and most other software.
Step 1: List what you have
Before you export anything, write down what lives in your current software:
- Report templates and your comment library
- Agreements
- Services, add-ons and fees
- Client and agent contacts
- Email and text automations
- Past reports
Each one moves differently. Some import, some get rebuilt, and past reports come over as files.
Step 2: Keep your old account open
Don't cancel first. Keep the old account until every piece is checked in the new one. You'll want it to compare templates side by side, and you'll need it to export past reports at the end.
If your current software has a shutdown date, work back from it. Horizon, for example, ends on December 15, 2026, and its export tools are available until then.
Step 3: Move your templates
Your template is the part you've spent the most time on, so move it first and give yourself time to check it.
In Hive, go to Templates → Upload, pick your old software and add its export file:
| Old software | File to upload |
|---|---|
| Spectora | The Excel template export, exported with HTML so formatting comes through |
| Home Inspector Pro | The .tpz export |
| HomeGauge | The .ht5 export |
| Horizon | horizon.json and your company_*.json file, from the same export |
The import takes a few minutes. For other software, such as PalmTech or Inspector Toolbelt, send the export to our team through the chat bubble in your dashboard, and we import it when the file can be read.
Then check the result. Every program organizes templates differently, so expect some clean-up:
- Imported templates start with ratings off. Turn them on if you use them.
- Spectora's "optional" setting doesn't carry over. Hide rarely used sections again.
- Check that each comment landed in the right group: information, limitations or defects.
Official forms such as TREC, NPMA-33 and the Florida insurance forms don't come from your old software. Import them from Hive's Template Hub instead, so they print on the official layout.
Step 4: Bring in your contacts
Export clients and agents from your old software as a CSV and import the file. Hive takes CSV imports from Spectora, ISN, Home Inspector Pro and HomeGauge.
Step 5: Rebuild agreements, services and automations
Agreements, services and fees rarely import cleanly, so they're usually rebuilt. Our team can do this for you. Automations work differently from system to system, so review them yourself even when someone else sets them up.
Step 6: Run a test inspection
Book a test inspection with your own email as the client. Take it from booking to a published report. Check the agreement, the payment, the emails and texts, and how the report reads. Fix what's off before a real client sees it.
Step 7: Move past reports last
Do this after your final inspection in the old software, so nothing is missed. How it works in Hive depends on where you're coming from:
- Spectora: Hive can't pull reports straight from Spectora, so we import what Spectora backs up to Google Drive. In Spectora, check that the Google Drive backup is on under Settings → System integrations. Share the backup folder with the email our team gives you, with Editor access. Spectora uploads gradually, roughly a hundred reports a night, so a long history can take days or weeks. If you inspected in Spectora after the import, ask us to import again and we add the reports that are missing.
- ISN: connect Google Drive in ISN and share that folder with our team. Also download a custom inspections report covering every year you used ISN and send it to us.
- HomeGauge and other software: put your report PDFs in a Google Drive folder, ideally one subfolder per address, and share it with our team.
- Horizon: export your past inspections in Horizon. It emails a download link for each year. Forward those emails to the address our team gives you.
If your old software's menus look different, its support team can tell you how to export.
What your past reports look like after the move
In Hive, imported reports appear in Business Tools → Past Inspections, separate from your main inspections list. Search by address, open an inspection to see its PDFs, and click Email to send one to a client who asks for it later.
What doesn't come over:
- Editing. Imported reports are PDFs. You can't edit them or start a re-inspection from them. To re-inspect a house, create a new inspection at the same address.
- Business numbers. Revenue, inspections per agent and other metrics from your old software stay there.
- From Horizon: fee schedules and agreement signing logs.
Step 8: Then cancel the old account
Once your templates, agreements, services, contacts and past reports are checked in Hive, cancel the old subscription.
How long it takes
If our team moves your data, start with a message in the chat bubble in your dashboard. A full Spectora account usually takes a few days, and most inspectors are on a real inspection in Hive within a few days. You can import your template and contacts yourself during the free trial, which is 5 free reports with no credit card.
