How to evaluate inspection software
This applies to any platform, including ours. Feature lists all read the same; these six checks are what actually separate them.
- 1
Write one real report in it
Not the demo file — an actual inspection you have already delivered. A platform that feels fast on a three-item sample can be slow on a 200-item report with 400 photos. This single test tells you more than any feature list.
- 2
Check what happens to your comment library
Your narrative library is usually the most valuable thing you own, built over years. Ask what transfers, what has to be rebuilt, and — just as important — whether you can export it again if you ever leave. Software you cannot leave is a decision you only get to make once.
- 3
Test it where you actually inspect
Crawl spaces, attics, rural properties with one bar of signal. Offline capture either works under those conditions or it does not, and you will not find out from a marketing page.
- 4
Add up the real monthly cost
Base subscription, plus per-report fees, client portal, scheduling, payment processing, agreements, website, and any per-inspector seats. Platforms price these differently, so compare the total for your actual volume rather than the headline figure.
- 5
Ask what the client and the agent receive
You are not the only reader of your report. Look at the delivered report on a phone, because that is where most buyers and agents will open it.
- 6
Break something on purpose during the trial
Send a support question at an awkward hour and see what comes back. Support quality is invisible until the day a report will not deliver and a client is waiting.
