The short answer

Should you choose Hive Inspect or Spectora?

Both platforms write reports, schedule jobs, take payments and include AI comment writing. Hive Inspect adds three capabilities Spectora does not sell at any price — multilingual reports in Spanish and French, AI Comment Merge, and Context Layer — and includes the automations, CRM and metrics Spectora meters at $4 per inspection. At real volumes that is $99 against $209 a month for a solo inspector, and $237 against $707 for a three-inspector firm. Their support chat starts with an AI assistant; ours is engineers, seven days a week. Hive Inspect is AI-first home inspection software; Spectora has been in the industry for eleven years, since 2015.

Capability gap

Hive

What does Hive Inspect have that Spectora doesn't?

Hive Inspect has three capabilities Spectora does not sell at any price — multilingual reports, AI Comment Merge, and Context Layer — plus two pricing structures Spectora does not offer: pay-per-report and a new-inspector ramp.

Multilingual reports (Spanish, French)

Multilingual reports are a Hive Inspect feature: write the inspection in English and deliver it in the language your client reads — Spanish, French, and more. No translator, no third party, no delay. As of August 2026, Spectora’s published feature list does not include this.

AI Comment Merge

AI Comment Merge is a Hive Inspect feature that combines related findings into one clean write-up, carrying photos and location tags across. Three roof callouts become one comment instead of three alarming line items. As of August 2026, Spectora’s published feature list does not include this.

How Comment Merge works

Context Layer

Context Layer is a Hive Inspect feature that shows your client how common each defect is nationally and in their state, and how big the repair usually runs. Findings land in proportion, and fewer panicked calls follow the report. As of August 2026, Spectora’s published feature list does not include this.

How Context Layer works

A plan for part-time inspectors

The 10-report pack is a Hive Inspect plan for part-time inspectors: ten reports at $9.90 each, every feature included, AI included. Inspect occasionally? Do not pay like you inspect daily. As of August 2026, Spectora publishes no pay-per-report option.

See the packages

A ramp for brand-new inspectors

The new-inspector ramp is a Hive Inspect plan priced for your first season: $39, then $59, then $79, reaching $99 in month four — for the months before the referrals start. As of August 2026, Spectora publishes no reduced new-inspector pricing.

Common ground

Tie, and that is the point

Where the two are the same

Both are mature enough to run an inspection business. Anyone telling you a competitor lacks the basics is selling you something.

Scheduling, agreements, payments and client delivery, on both.
Unlimited reports, photos and video, on both.
Offline report writing in the field, on both.
State and industry forms, on both.
A basic cost-estimate field on the report, on both.

Why the price differs

Hive

Why is Spectora's bill higher?

When the technology generation changes, the newer platform charges less and does more — because it is not carrying the older platform's costs.

You have seen this pattern before

Texts cost 10¢ each until internet-native messaging made them free. Stock trades cost $8 until app-native brokers made them $0. When the platform generation changes, the price drops and the features grow at the same time — the newcomer is not discounting; the older platform is carrying older costs.

Their bill has three dials

Spectora — three dials

  • $109 base
  • + $99 per additional inspector
  • + $4 per inspection on Advanced

Hive — two dials

  • $99 base
  • + $69 per additional inspector

Notice the line missing from ours: the per-inspection charge.

The team is the key

Hive Inspect is built by a team with decades of software engineering and AI research experience, working alongside the inspectors who use it every day — features are shaped by requests from the field. The platform is engineered to scale, so those features ship into the base plan without a new fee attached, and your bill stays $99 no matter how hard you work.

Total cost

Hive, and the gap widens with volume

What it actually costs

The gap is not the sticker price. It is the meter. Spectora Advanced is charged per inspection, so the bill grows the harder you work. On Hive a busy month costs what a quiet one does.

Solo inspector — 25 inspections a month

Hive Inspect$99/mo
Spectora$209/mo

$109 + (25 × $4)

You save $110/mo

Three inspectors — 100 inspections a month

Hive Inspect$237/mo
Spectora$707/mo

$109 + (2 × $99) + (100 × $4)

You save $470/mo

Ten inspectors — 300 inspections a month

Hive Inspect$720/mo
Spectora$2,200/mo

$109 + (9 × $99) + (300 × $4)

You save $1,480/mo

Business model

Ask both of us

The part that is not on the invoice

Spectora built and owns Fixle, a client-facing platform inside the inspection portal. After you deliver the report, your client’s portal shows a Special Offers tab: home warranty, homeowners insurance, home security and move-in concierge offers, with a $70 referral fee to you for each warranty sign-up. None of this is hidden — it is in their own documentation, and you can switch each product off in settings. It is simply a second business model, running inside your client relationship. Hive does not have one. Your client’s portal shows your report and your branding, nothing else — because your client relationship is your referral pipeline, and we do not market into it.

  • We do not sell client data. Not to lead buyers, not to contractors, not to anyone.
  • No third-party ads or upsells inside your reports.
  • Your client’s contact details stay in your account.
  • We make money one way: the subscription you pay. That is the whole model.
Read our data privacy pledge

Worth asking any platform you are evaluating, and you should ask it of us too: besides my subscription, how do you make money, and who gets my client’s contact details?

“Hive also won’t sell your client’s data to 3rd party vendors unlike other platforms.”

Direction

Different roadmaps — pick the one you need

Both teams ship constantly. They ship different things.

Spectora releases steadily and we would not claim otherwise. The question worth asking is not how often a team ships, but what they are choosing to build.

Spectora — from their public changelog

  • Order form sequencing
  • Custom field placement
  • Label alignment
  • A collapsed contacts panel

Careful work, steadily delivered, on a form builder designed in 2015.

Hive — recent releases

  • AI Comment Merge
  • Context Layer
  • Multi-language report delivery

Different problems — because the product was designed around AI rather than extended toward it.

Every Sunday, you hear what changed

Features ship most days. A summary goes out every Sunday, in our Facebook group and by email. Inspectors tell us they look forward to it.

Join the Facebook group

The speed that matters is how fast your request becomes a feature. Our inspectors describe it best:

“It’s incredible to request quality of life features and see them implemented in a matter of hours.”

Michael Stushie · Home Inspector

“I’m so pleasantly surprised at how quickly these changes are being implemented, nice work!”

PJ Smith · Home Inspector

“They WANT our input and quickly integrate suggestions.”

DanBurkhead · App Store review, 5★

Support

An engineer first, or an AI assistant first

Who picks up when something breaks

On Spectora, chat starts with Fin, their AI assistant — a person is a “talk to a human” away, during staffed hours. Here, the order is reversed: your message reaches an engineer, and the AI stays in the product where it belongs.

Support on Hive Inspect

  • Seven days a week — including Sunday, when their live support is closed.
  • Live chat, screen sharing and video calls, unlimited — not a fixed onboarding allotment.
  • Answered by the engineers who build the product, so most issues get fixed on the spot rather than logged.

“When there is an issue it is resolved very quickly because you actually talk to a human rather than an AI bubble… When needed, the Hive team will actually get on a video call with you to help resolve issues.”

Report quality

Test it yourself

Do not take our word on the AI

Both platforms draft a comment for you. The question is whether it reads like your report or like software. Five minutes settles it:

  1. 1Take a defect you have written a hundred times.
  2. 2Run it through both platforms.
  3. 3Read the two outputs side by side.

If it does not read like you, do not buy it. That goes for us too.

The report itself is yours to shape, too — layout, sections and branding are customized to how you prefer to present. See sample reports.

Choose Hive Inspect if

  • You want reports in Spanish or French, comment merging, or market context on defects — none of which you can buy from them at any price.
  • You want the report shaped to you — layout, sections and branding customized to how you prefer to present.
  • You run enough inspections that a per-inspection fee for automations adds up.
  • You are part-time, or brand new, and one flat plan does not fit how you work yet.
  • You would rather reach the engineer who can fix it than a support queue.
  • You want features shipping every week, with a Sunday summary of what changed.

Choose Spectora instead if what you value most is the industry’s largest community — they publish 12,000+ inspectors, to Hive’s 2,500+ and growing — or a structured curriculum like Spectora University.

If you switch, everything transfers free

Spectora is the platform we move inspectors off most often, so templates import directly and our team moves or rebuilds the rest — no migration fee, no onboarding package to buy. See what switching involves, then keep both subscriptions running until your Hive templates have been through a real inspection.

Common questions

Hive Inspect and Spectora: common questions

Hive Inspect is AI-first home inspection software. It turns spoken findings, notes and photos into client-ready reports, and includes scheduling, agreements, payments, automations, CRM and a Realtor portal in one subscription. It runs on iOS, Android and web, works offline, and costs $99/month or $999/year with unlimited reports — every feature included, AI included.
Three capabilities Spectora does not sell at any price: multilingual reports, so a report written in English can be delivered in Spanish, French and other languages; AI Comment Merge, which combines related defects into one clean comment with photos and location tags carried across; and Context Layer, which shows the client how common each defect is nationally and in their state. Hive also offers two pricing structures Spectora does not: a $9.90-per-report pack for part-time inspectors and a reduced ramp for brand-new inspectors.
Hive Inspect is $99/month with everything included — about $83/month billed annually. Spectora is $109/month, plus $4 per inspection for Advanced (automations, CRM and metrics) and $99/month per additional inspector, against Hive’s $69. At real volumes: a solo inspector running 25 inspections a month pays $99 on Hive and $209 on Spectora; a three-inspector firm at 100 inspections pays $237 against $707; a ten-inspector firm at 300 inspections pays $720 against $2,200.
Spectora’s price moves with three dials: the $109 base, $99 per additional inspector, and $4 per inspection on Advanced. Hive’s moves with two — $99 base and $69 per additional inspector — and neither is your workload, so a 40-inspection month costs the same as a 4-inspection month. Hive Inspect is built by a team with decades of software engineering and AI research experience, and the platform is engineered to scale, so new features ship into the base plan without a new fee attached.
Yes. Write the report in English and deliver it in the language your client prefers — Spanish, French, and more — with no translator, no third party and no delay. Spectora does not have this feature.
Hive’s AI writes comments in your own template writing style, so the output is unique to your reports rather than generic AI boilerplate. Spectora describes its system as matching your speech to template comments you already approved, and its published description does not mention adapting to your writing style. Rather than take our word on quality: take a defect you have written a hundred times, run it through both platforms, and read the two outputs side by side. If it does not read like you, do not buy it — that goes for us too.
Fixle is a client-facing platform Spectora built and owns. After the report is delivered, the client’s portal shows a Special Offers tab with home warranty, homeowners insurance, home security and move-in concierge offers, with a $70 referral fee to the inspector for each warranty sign-up — all described in Spectora’s own documentation, with a settings toggle to switch each product off. Hive has no equivalent. The subscription is the whole business model: no offers in your client’s portal, no client data sold, and your client’s contact details stay in your account.
On Spectora, chat starts with Fin, their AI assistant, and you type “talk to a human” to reach an agent; per their published hours, agents are staffed Monday to Thursday 7am–6pm MT, Friday to 5pm, Saturday in two blocks, and closed Sundays and nine holidays. On Hive, your message reaches the engineers who build the product, seven days a week, with unlimited video calls and screen sharing — so most issues get fixed on the spot rather than logged.
Everything, free: templates, comment libraries, contacts, agreements, services and modifiers, automations, discount codes, location tags, business hours, team signatures and company info. Templates import directly and the Hive team moves or rebuilds the rest — no migration fee, no onboarding package to buy, and unlimited onboarding calls until your first inspection. Do not cancel Spectora first: keep both running until your Hive templates have been through a real inspection.
Part-time inspectors can pay per report: $9.90 each in a $99 pack of ten, every feature included, AI included. Brand-new inspectors pay $39, then $59, then $79 for their first three months, reaching $99 in month four — priced for the months before referrals start. Spectora publishes neither option; its plan is $109/month from day one.
Yes. Layout, sections and branding are customized to how you prefer to present, and your existing template comes across when you migrate. Sample reports written in Hive Inspect are published at hiveinspect.com/sample-reports.
Features ship most days, and a summary of what changed goes out every Sunday in the Hive Inspect Facebook group and by email. Inspectors report requesting a feature and seeing it implemented within hours or days. Spectora also releases steadily — the difference is what ships: their recent changelog entries are refinements to an established form builder, while Hive’s recent releases are AI Comment Merge, Context Layer and multi-language delivery.
Two places. Spectora has the industry’s largest community — they publish 12,000+ inspectors, to Hive’s 2,500+ and growing — which means more inspectors in your state already use it. And Spectora University is a structured training curriculum, where Hive offers onboarding calls, tutorials and documentation. If those matter more to you than multilingual reports, comment merging, market context and unmetered pricing, Spectora is the better buy.

Last reviewed: August 2026. We revisit this page when our own capabilities change and when Spectora updates theirs. Verify competitor details directly with them too, since their plans move on their schedule, not ours.
